3d Modeling of Heritage Objects by Fringe Projection and Laser Scanning Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
The treasure of the Essen cathedral in Germany is one of the few collections of medieval art completely preserved in the course of history, including approximately 250 objects such as crosses, crowns, swords, statues, manuscripts, and reliquaries. These precious works of art show a great variety in size, shape, material, and complexity. In the paper, ideas and concepts for recording the manifold objects of the treasure by optical methods such as photogrammetry, fringe projection and laser technique are reported on. The measurement systems used are described as well as calibration aspects, difficulties of data acquisition and processing are mentioned, and virtual models of the treasure are presented. * Corresponding author

Fringe Projection Simulation Software for 3D Shape Measurements
Profilometry with LCD or DLP beamers has become a common three-dimensional scanning technique[1]. Many attempts are made to enhance the accuracy of these measurement systems, by developing new algorithms or improving the existing ones. Comparing these algorithms to the existing methods requires building a validation setup. This validation setup has to be carefully calibrated to obtain realistic...
متن کاملComparison and Evaluation of Laser Scanning and Photogrammetry and Their Combined Use for Digital Recording of Cultural Heritage
Three-dimensional (3D) scanning and modeling of sites and artifacts of cultural heritage have increased remarkably in recent years. A wide variety of objects, e.g., small pieces of pottery, statues, buildings, and large areas of archaeological sites, have been scanned and modeled for such purposes as preservation, reconstruction, study, and museum exhibitions. Due to the range in size of the ob...
متن کامل3d Modeling of Structures Using Break-lines and Corners in 3d Point Clowd Data
Recently, a laser scanner has been receiving more attention as a useful tool for real-time 3D data acquisition, and various applications such as city modeling, DTM generation and 3D modeling of cultural heritage were proposed. However, 3D Representation of historical structures from point cloud 3D data collected by laser scanner is still issues. In order to reduce the time, labor and skill for ...
متن کاملRange sensors on marble surfaces: quantitative evaluation of artifacts
While 3D imaging systems are widely available and used, clear statements about the possible influence of material properties over the acquired geometrical data are still rather few. In particular a material very often used in Cultural Heritage is marble, known to give geometrical errors with range sensor technologies and whose entity reported in the literature seems to vary considerably in the ...
متن کاملEXPERIENCES WITH LASER SCANNING AT i3mainz
Since a year and a half i3mainz uses scanners for cultural heritage recording tasks. Three different scanners were used: CYRAX 2500 (time-of-flight laser), Mensi SOISIC (triangulation laser) and GOM ATOS II (structured light projection). These scanners are completely different regarding their principles of operation, specifications and typical applications. This paper will describe some project...
